In keeping with the Libertarian emphasis on voluntary community activity, Libertarians of Northeast Kansas (LNEKs) have adopted Betty Phillips Park in Topeka.
The adoption took place in early 2022 and after we had demonstrated our commitment to the park’s attractiveness and usefulness, was made official by the posting of a sign at the park’s entrance.
LNEK’s meet on the first Saturday of each month, and several times a year that meeting takes place at the park in the morning. We collect trash and discarded shopping carts, place them at the edge of the parking lot, and notify the Shawnee County Parks and Recreation Department, which sends a truck to haul the trash away. The group then adjourns to a local eatery for brunch and serious discussion about Libertarian issues.
LNEK encompasses Shawnee County in Kansas, including the capital city, Topeka. It is co-chaired by John Hauer and Sharon DuBois. For more information, see our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/LibertariansOfNortheastKansasLnek
